Suara Cooperativa and the Centre de Vida Independent are teaming up to train 1,100 workers on the use of technology in the care sector.

The "Training Program in Technology Applied to Care for professionals in the Social Health and Direct Care Sector", financed with a grant from the "Conforcat A MIDA" of the Consortium for Continuing Education of Catalonia of the Department of Business and Work, through Next Generation funds, it is a pioneer in this field, since it is the first to approach the training of the use of technology applied to aging and personal autonomy from a grounded look at reality.

As a result of this collaboration, the Centre de Vida Independent will provide a total of 33,000 teaching hours to 1,100 workers in the social and health sector and the direct attention of Suara Cooperativa during ten months of this 2024.

As part of this program, around 600 professionals have already been trained, who have learned how to use technology applied to care tasks with the aim of promoting both active aging and the personal autonomy of the people being cared for .

This initiative offers a practical and experiential approach for family workers. The use of the Centre de Vida Independent as a practice and learning environment, as it is a fully adapted, home automation and digital real home, which allows participants to acquire skills that they can apply directly to the homes of the people being cared for.

Ensure that the person can live at home

The emergence of technology has transformed the care model. This lives immersed in a process of change towards a key challenge: guaranteeing support where the person cared for can continue to reside in their home, despite being in a situation of dependency. For this reason, this context has led to technology becoming an essential tool to deal with this paradigm shift, which aims to enhance personal autonomy in activities of daily life such as mobilisation, displacement, hygiene, personal care, cooking or communication.

To face this challenge, trainings like those offered by the CVI to the workers of Suara Cooperativa are key, through which they can acquire knowledge and be familiar with these technological tools that have entered the homes of people in a situation of aging or dependency so that they can enjoy a more independent life.

In addition, a differentiating feature of this training program is that it takes place at the CVI facilities, where technological solutions that promote this active life are explored and experimented with. Therefore, this allows workers who receive this training to acquire the necessary knowledge in a practical and experiential way on how to use these tools in their day-to-day work.

Similarly, the workers in the home sector will also be able to learn about verbal and non-verbal communication and approach techniques, in order to create an environment that promotes both stimulation and activation of the people they accompany.
