The Barnahus (House of Girls and Children in Icelandic) is a model of comprehensive care that already applies to the United States and northern Europe, where all the departments involved in a case of child sexual abuse are coordinated and work under the same roof to attend to children or adolescents victims. It is a house, far from police stations and hospitals, which guarantees a safe environment and works to avoid revictimization through comprehensive emotional and psychological support.
Cozy facilities
🏠 The facilities, managed by Suara at Girona, Tortosa and the Prat de Llobregat, are designed as homes, with waiting rooms and adapted accompaniment spaces.
Multidisciplinary team
👥 Social psychologists collaborate with the different departments to provide emotional support to children and their families.
In the Barnahus, a psychosocial team works full time, and there are other professionals coordinating to prevent children and their families from resorting to the different instances involved in these processes: police station, court, childhood service, medical center. It will also work on accompanying affected families, as well as the prevention and detection of abuse.
La Barnahus represents a breakthrough in our work of protection and support for vulnerable children in the cooperative. A trajectory with 37 years of experience responding to social challenges in an innovative way. Today we pay attention to 4,000 children, adolescents and young people throughout the territory.
"The psychosocial team is made up of psychologists, social workers, administrative staff and a coordination figure that support both children and their families."
